The SmartMerchant Solutions Check Services program offers merchants
state-of-the-art check processing services. We offer check guarantee
programs and an electronic check conversion program that make accepting
checks risk free and as easy as accepting credit cards. Whether
the check is presented by the purchaser face-to-face, over the phone,
by fax, or over the Internet, we have a solution that makes accepting
checks quick and risk free.
In Person Retail Check Guarantee Program
The In Person Retail Check Guarantee Program enables you to accept
personal checks without the risk or hassle of trying to collect
on bad checks. When a purchaser wishes to make payment using a personal
check, the clerk simply swipes the check through an electronic check
reader, which reads the routing number and account number from the
check. The check reader communicates with the check guarantee provider's
database of known bad check writers. If the purchaser does not show
as currently having an outstanding bad check, then the check is
approved and payment is guaranteed. If the purchaser's check turns
out to be bad, the check guarantee provider will mail out a check
to you within 30 days. The check guarantee provider will be solely
responsible for collecting the money from the check writier.
Accept Checks Via Phone or Fax
This check guarantee program allows you to accept checks over
the phone or via fax with the same confidence and guarantee as the
In Person Retail Check Guarantee Program. With this program, the
check's routing number and account number are keyed into a Windows-based
software program that dials and communicates with the check guarantee
provider's database to verify the check. If the check is approved,
the merchant prints out a guaranteed check on their printer and
then deposits it in their bank.
Accept Checks Via the Internet
With this check guarantee program, you may accept checks from
your e-commerce Web site simply by adding a "pay by check icon"
to your site. When the purchaser clicks this icon, they fill out
the order form and submit the transaction for approval. Once approved,
the purchaser and the merchant receive an email stating the transaction
has been approved. The merchant prints out a guaranteed check on
their printer and then deposits it in their bank.
Electronic Check Conversion Program
Electronic check conversion enables a merchant to use a check imager
to accept a check, making an image of the check and then submitting
an electronic file to the check conversion company. The check is
converted into an electronic transaction, sent to the bank, and
funds are deposited into the merchant's account. The merchant simply
cancels the check as though already deposited and hands it back
to the purchaser. The purchaser signs a receipt much like a credit
card receipt. If the check bounces, the funds are guaranteed just
like the check guarantee programs above.
